Keyboard Shortcuts

Got a spreadsheet problem that you just can’t figure out?

Wondering whether you’re going all round the houses to do something that could be solved with a few clicks?

Don’t fear… Traci’s Tips are right here!

Here are a few Keyboard Shortcuts that you may find useful.

Tip 1

Copy Worksheet – Hold down Ctrl and drag sheet

Quicker than right clicking the sheet name, selecting ‘Move or Copy’, selecting position, then ticking the ‘Copy’ box.

Tip 2

Ctrl, Shift + End

Selects all cells used.
This is really useful for setting Print Ranges, Creating Named Ranges, applying Filters or using Sort.

Tip 3

Ctrl + A

Selects all cells in current range.
This is really useful for setting Print Ranges, Creating Named Ranges, applying Filters or using Sort.

Tip 4

Ctrl + A

Select data, then press F11 to create a Chart.
This will appear on a new sheet, as a Column Chart………like magic!!

Tip 5

Ctrl + Semi Colon

This enters todays date as a value and formats the cell as dd/mm/yyyy.

Tip 6

Alt + 0176

Enter the ° symbol into a cell.
This is far easier than going into the symbol menu to find the symbol you need.

Tip 7

To return to cell A1, press ‘Ctrl’ + ‘Home’

Tip 8

Pressing F4 will insert ‘$’ into formula’s to make row numbers, or colum letters in formula’s remain constant

Tip 9

F9 will manually re-calculate formula’s

Tip 10

F2 allows you to edit a cell

Tip 11

Press Alt + ; This will copy ‘Visible Cells Only’, when a filter is applied (without copying all the hidden data)

Tip 12

Press ‘Ctrl’ + ‘C’ = Copy

Tip 13

Press ‘Ctrl’ + ‘X’ = Cut

Tip 14

Press ‘Ctrl’ + ‘V’ = Paste

Tip 15

Press ‘Ctrl’ + ‘B’ = Bold

Tip 16

Press ‘Ctrl’ + ‘I’ = Itallic

Tip 17

Press ‘Ctrl’ + ‘N’ = Opens a New Workbook

Tip 18

Press F1 to access ‘Excel Help’

Tip 19

Pressing ‘Enter’ will give you the same result as ‘Paste’, but remove the item from the clipboard too

Tip 20

Hold down ‘Shift’ when selecting cells, to highlight all items consecutively within the range

Tip 21

Hold down ‘Ctrl’ when highlighting data, to highlight only the selected cells

Tip 22

Press Ctrl + F = Find
